Research Interests

Research focuses on discovering, rational design and synthesis of novel drug candidates by means of novel drug discovery, medicinal chemistry approaches and synthetic approaches such as:

Computer-aided drug design, Molecular modeling and rational drug design methods, In silico screening of chemical libraries, Quantitative structure-activity relationship, Multi-component reactions.

The current focus of the laboratory is on the development of therapeutic agents in following fields:

Small molecules inhibitors of Beta-secretase (BACE۱) for management of Alzheimer disease

Alzheimer’s disease is the major form of dementia in the elderly and places a heavy socio-economic burden on our society. Targeting BACE-۱, the proteolytic enzyme that initiates Aβformation, has generated a lot of research interest recently. We mainly focus on molecular design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel BACE۱ inhibitors.

 Novel anticancer agents
Cancer represents one of the most serious clinical problems and its incidence is rising in developing as well as developed countries. One of our major research programs is focused in the field of discovery and development of novel anticancer agents with high efficacy, low toxicity, and minimum undesirable side effects.

 Small molecules MDR reversal agents

Multidrug resistance (MDR) has been emerged as an important reason of failure in treatment of cancer. Design and synthesis of novel MDR reversal agents especially based on dihydropyridine scaffold is one of the main focuses of our research team.

Calcium channel blocking agents for treatment of cardiovascular disorders

We especially interested in design and synthesis and biological evaluation of dihydropyridine-based calcium channel blocking agents.
