The Medicinal and Natural Product Chemistry Research Center (MNCRC) was founded in August 2002. The main purpose of MNCRC was to take advantage of the advancements in basic sciences especially chemistry and apply them to medical purposes.
MNCRC started its activity in a limited space in the Department of Pharmacology. Eventually with better funding that MNCRC could achieve, it moved to its current location, a 1112 square meter building.
The Center started its activity with five faculty members. This number has now reached 5 full-time, 5 part-time and 4 joint members. In addition to several laboratory technicians that work at MNCRC, there is a high turnover of many university students, who engage in research under the supervision of the faculty members. Research interests of the members lie in the field defined by our 5-year strategic plan. Members come from different scientific disciplines including Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Immunology and Physiology. Four members of the center have won prizes in the RAZI Medical Sciences Research Festival in Iran.
MNCRC has won the first prize in the RAZI Medical Sciences Research Festival for the best research center in Iran among similar research centers in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
